2025 50c Dorothea Mackellar - My Country PNC
Treasured Australian Poetry

Dorothea Mackellar OBE (1885 – 1968) holds a unique place in the literary heart of Australia. Her evocative and lyrical poems beautifully capture the unique qualities of the Australian bush, its light and colours, and in turn gave word to our collective and fundamental connection to country and place. Known for her nationalistic poems celebrating the Australian bush and landscape. She was a member of the generation of Australian-born bush poets such as Banjo Paterson, CJ Dennis and Henry Lawson, who saw beauty in a country that was a far cry from Mother England's green and pleasant land.

This Postal Numismatic Cover is highly collectable, featuring a pictorial envelope with a 2025 Uncirculated AlBr 50c coin commemorating Australian writer - Dorothea Mackellar.

Mackellar's most famous poem, "My Country", was first published in 1908 in the London Spectator under the title "Core of My Heart", when the author was only 19. Taught to generations of Australian school children, this poem declares the author's love not for England, but for a land of extremes, a brown and pitiless country of droughts and flooding rains.
