The 2021 20c 35th Anniversary of Animalia Special Book Edition celebrates Graeme Base’s iconic Australian children's book. Released by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM) in partnership with the Children’s Book Council of Australia, this special edition incorporates a commemorative coloured 20-cent coin built right into the front hardcover of the anniversary book itself
This was the first release in an ongoing commemorative series is a special collaboration between the Royal Australian Mint and the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). It celebrates iconic Australian children's books, authors, and illustrators while promoting the joy of reading to young audiences.
Set within a vibrant, colour-printed circular border, the design portrays a multitude of animals—both real and mythological—alongside a boy sitting on the grass, capturing the whimsical spirit of the alphabet book. Overlapping the left side of the main circle is a detailed, colour-printed strip featuring a collage of characters and imagery extracted from the pages of the book. On this specific deluxe book edition, all of the exposed, uncoloured cupro-nickel metal surfaces on the reverse are beautifully plated in real gold.
