1986 United Kingdom Brilliant Uncirculated Eight-Coin Collection
The Royal Mint Annual Year Set

This coin set celebrates 1986, a year that witnessed Labyrinth, David Bowie's fantasy film, Neighbours and Casualty hit our screens, and the Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) enabled Email. However, it was also a more somber and significant year with events including; The Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station Disaster, the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger and the taking of BSE (Mad Cow Disease) in the UK. In the minting world, the next in the UK one-pound coin series saw the creation of the Northern Ireland £1 coin in a “Flax and Royal Diadem” design by Leslie Durbin, and the release of a Commonwealth Games celebratory £2 coin designed by Norman Sillman.

All the coins have the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf.
