2025 $2 C-Mintmark Poppy Wreath - 80th Anniversary of WWII

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. On 15 August 1945, Japan accepted the Allied demand for unconditional surrender, effectively bringing World War II to an end after six years of bitter conflict. It had been the most destructive war in human history, involving more than 30 countries and with around 75 million casualties, including some 39,000 Australians. Throughout Australia, jubilation that the war was finally over erupted on the streets of the cities and towns. A public holiday was gazetted as VP (Victory in the Pacific) Day, still commemorated every year on 15 August.

In honour of the courageous Australians who served in the Second World War, the Royal Australian Mint presents these coins. The coins features a wreath of red poppies – an enduring symbol of remembrance in Australia and other Commonwealth nations. Surrounded by sculpted leaves, the eight poppies in the wreath represent the eight decades that have passed since the most devastating war in human history.
