Issued as a special release at the 2013 Melbourne International Coin & Banknote Show, the Perth Mint’s Sister Cities 1oz Silver Proof Lenticular Coin celebrates the enduring partnership between Melbourne, Australia, and St Petersburg, Russia.

The sister city relationship, established on 21 April 1989, represents the only formal cooperation between cities in these two nations, promoting cultural, educational, sporting, and business exchanges that continue to thrive.

The coin’s reverse features full-colour images of each city’s iconic landmarks: the Admiralty Building and Isaac Cathedral of St Petersburg, and Flinders Street Station with a passing tram in Melbourne. Thanks to innovative lenticular technology, the images transform from one city to the other as the coin is tilted. The design is finished with the inscription SISTER CITIES and decorative bands inspired by architectural elements from both locations.
