Two Australian-born US citizens, Dr. Paul Scully-Power and Dr. Andrew Thomas, have made spaceflights as NASA astronauts… but there’s yet to be an Aussie woman in space, or anyone fly under the Australian flag. Katherine Bennell-Pegg, from the Australian Space Agency, has trained at the European Astronaut Centre as an Australian. Basic astronaut training qualifies you to go to the International Space Station.

Astronautics is an area of scientific development in which Australia has a competitive edge and strategic interest, including technologies enhancing positioning, navigation and timing; earth observation; communications technologies and services; and much more.

Each coin is presented in an official presentation case and accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The inclusion of the ‘C’ mintmark distinguishes this release.
