The 2023 "King of the Mountain" collection celebrates Peter Brock's unprecedented legacy at the Mount Panorama Circuit, specifically charting his record-setting nine Bathurst triumphs. The set Includes 1972, 1979, 1980, 1984 and 1987
- 1972 (The Solo Victory): Celebrating Peter Brock's inaugural Bathurst win in the Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1. Brock famously drove solo for the entire 500-mile race, conquering wet conditions to launch his legendary status.
- 1979 (The Six-Lap Obliteration): Partnering with co-driver Jim Richards. This duo dominated the race in an LX Torana SS A9X, famously winning by an unmatched six laps and breaking the lap record on the final lap.
- 1980 (The First Commodore Win): Again pairing with Jim Richards. They transitioned to the newer VC Commodore platform, securing Brock's third consecutive victory and cementing the era of Holden's premium V8 touring cars.
- 1984 (The Last of the Big Bangers): Driven alongside co-driver Larry Perkins. They secured a famous 1–2 formation finish for the Mobil Holden Dealer Team in the day-glo VK Commodore, executing pure dominance over the field.
- 1987 (The Controversial Ninth Final Win): Shared by Peter Brock, David "Skippy" Parsons, and Peter McLeod. Brock's primary #05 VL Commodore blew its engine early on lap 34. Utilizing cross-entry race rules, Brock and Parsons jumped into the team’s second string #10 car, which had been started by McLeod. They crossed the finish line 3rd in a heavy rainstorm. However, months later, the top two finishing factory-backed European Ford Sierras were disqualified for illegal bodywork modifications, officially granting Brock his 9th and final "Great Race" trophy.
The collection utilizes a standardized presentation layout across all five entries:
- The Medallions: Every cover encapsulates a genuine, non-legal tender pre-decimal Australian bronze penny that has been heavily gold-plated with a protective finish.
- The Obverse: The front of each penny uniformly retains the vintage profile of King George VI.
- The Postal Markings: Every envelope features a pair of official $1.10 "Brock 50 Years" postage stamps. They are all hand-cancelled with a special first-day pictorial cancellation mark from Bathurst NSW 2795, dated 7 February 2023.
- Limited Production: Each individual variant was capped at a strict worldwide mintage of 2,500 units, with an automated unique serial number printed on the rear
Note: this is a Postal Medallion Cover (PMC) - it includes a medallion that is not legal tender.
* All PMC's have non-identical / non-consecutive numbers
