2022 Peter Brock Bathurst King of the Mountain - 1972 (Antique Silver Plated PMC Medallion)
In 2022, Australia Post and various coin and collectable groups released the Peter Brock "King of the Mountain" 50th Anniversary collection, which celebrated 50 years since his first Bathurst 1000 win in 1972 and highlighted his record nine career victories. the series included :
- 1972 (Peter Brock wins his first Bathurst 1000 driving solo in a Holden LJ Torana GTR XU-1)
- 1979 (Brock and Jim Richards dominate in a Holden LX Torana A9X, winning by a record six laps),
- 1980 (Brock secures his first Bathurst victory in a Holden Commodore),
- 1984 (Brock and Larry Perkins lead a legendary 1-2 formation finish in the famous "Big Banger" Marlboro Holden VK Commodore)
- 1987 (Brock claims his ninth and final victory in a Holden VL Commodore after crossing the line third in torrential rain and inheriting the win post-race).
This PMC celebrates Brock's first-ever Bathurst victory in the 1972 Hardie-Ferodo 500 at Mount Panorama, driving the iconic #28C Holden Dealer Team LJ Torana GTR XU-1. This was the final year that driving solo was permitted at Bathurst. Brock drove the entire grueling 500-mile race (130 laps over more than six hours) completely without a co-driver or a break. The race was heavily affected by wet weather, which neutralized the V8 advantage of his rivals and played directly into the nimble hands of Brock and his agile Torana
This version was released as part of the official 5-part commemorative set highlighting Brock's historic Bathurst milestones.
