The Royal Australian Mint's Alphabet Coin Collection (2015–2017) is a highly popular, 26-part series spanning letters A through Z. Designed Bronwyn King, the series seamlessly merges education, fine art, and native Australian wildlife. Each of the 26 coins highlights a specific letter of the alphabet playfully interacting with a native Australian animal starting with that letter (e.g., A for Ant, B for Bilby, W for Wombat). Inspired by puzzle books like Animalia, the background of each coin contains cleverly hidden objects beginning with the same letter. Collectors often use a magnifying glass to hunt for them.
The Alphabet series served as the core design theme for the Royal Australian Mint's official annual Baby Mint and Proof Sets from 2015 to 2017. Parents and collectors could purchase a standard 6-coin year set that included a special colored "ABC" token or swap in a specific custom letter coin to commemorate a newborn child's initial. While the base metal coins were sold in large quantities, the Silver Proof editions were minted in strictly limited numbers.
