1993 $10 Sterling Silver State Series Proof Coin - Australian Capital Territory
The 1993 Australian Capital Territory (ACT) $10 Sterling Silver Proof Coin is a collector piece issued by the Royal Australian Mint as part of the popular State Series. It served as the eighth and final release in the Royal Australian Mint's Australian States and Territories Series, which celebrated the unique identity of each region across Australia. This coin celbrates the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Coat of Arms and its heraldic emblems.
The reverse design, created by Horst Hahne, features a deeply symbolic layout based on the official Arms of the City of Canberra. An Australian black swan (representing Indigenous Australians) and a European white mute swan (representing white settlers) act as the protectors of the central shield. The Central Shield features a triple-towered castle with a portcullis (representing the legislature and parliament) positioned over a white rose (the badge of the Duke of York, who opened the original Parliament House building in 1927). A scroll at the bottom reads, "For the Queen, the Law, and the People".
